We say no to dangerous and explosive oil trains in our communities.
Portland City Council has a big decision to make about Zenith Energy’s oil-by-rail terminal and they need to hear from you! In the face of a climate emergency, Portland has the opportunity to say “NO!” to this dirty oil company and assert its vision for a sustainable city—one that values community and environmental health over profits for fossil fuel companies.
Dear Portland City Council Members:
I urge you to follow your commitment to community safety by saying no to Zenith Energy’s oil-by-rail operations. You are being called upon to make a critical decision about the health and safety of our communities and our ability to build resilience as we face the climate emergency. Your task is to determine whether Zenith’s fossil fuel infrastructure is compatible with the City of Portland’s land use goals. We have your answer: No, it is not!
For years, under pressure from community members, the City of Portland has made efforts to protect us from this very type of development. Time and time again, Zenith has found loopholes to get around those protections. But the community has been watching—we have followed the permitting processes and voiced our concerns every step of the way. We will not stop until our communities and our climate are protected from the threats Zenith presents.
For communities all along the rail lines, the risk is simply too big. Please act to prioritize the health and safety of our communities over profits for the fossil fuel industry. We need protective solutions and we are counting on you to do the right thing: Say No to Zenith!
