Dear Portland Clean Energy Fund Committee,
We are writing to voice our proud support of the Portland Clean Energy Fund and the proposal of the PCEF Committee to remain focused on climate and environmental justice.
We are excited to learn that PCEF is bringing in more funding than anticipated, and we are vocalizing strong community support for keeping this extra funding focused on climate and environmental justice projects, as was the original intent of PCEF as approved by voters.
The City of Portland's own PCEF Market Study Summary (published in June 2023) shows that we would need to invest around $49 billion to complete all climate mitigation and adaptation projects. This demonstrates that there are many projects that PCEF money, including funding amounts that exceed expectation, can be allocated toward that would support the community and local climate justice efforts.
We agree that partnerships between government entities and community groups can be beneficial, as long as they stay focused on community benefits and make significant progress on climate goals.
We appreciate that the PCEF Committee is continuing to safeguard all PCEF funds to go toward creating more resilient communities and helping Portland on the trajectory toward a just transition to a sustainable present and future. Thank you for your continued efforts to design PCEF allocation procedures by and for the community.
